En el partido de ida había igualado 1 a 1 con un tanto de Walter Bustamante, quien fue el máximo anotador del “Sagrado” en el certamen con 10 goles.
Aquella tarde el “Topo” Quinteros puso en cancha a Aldo Ibáñez; Darío Salas, Erik Martínez Acosta y Cristian Agüero; Mauricio Saavedra, Franco Ibáñez, Naim Garnica y Jonathan Zurita; Gastón Vega y Lucas Sosa; Walter Bustamente. También formaron parte de aquel plantel Saúl Castro, José Ríos, Cristian Carrizo, Walter Vega, Andrés Arroyo, Javier Díaz, Leonel Canil, Nelson Castillo, entre otros.
Sin discusión alguna el ascenso de Defensores de Esquiú al Federal B es el logro más importante que tiene la historia del fútbol de Catamarca hasta el momento. Ningún equipo había conseguido un ascenso en cancha hasta entonces, y ninguno lo consiguió después.
